In 2018, Concrete Canvas was used as a channel lining solution for water storage in the Segare region of Papua. The channel lining was installed in Asmat Village, accessible only by air and sea.

Challenge

Given the challenges of Asmat village’s inaccessibility, the Papua Public Works Agency (PU) has chosen Concrete Canvas as the channel lining solution . Rolls of Concrete Canvas can be transported to the installation site by boat or motorcycle after being pre-cut to the required dimensions.

Besides its difficult-to-reach location, another challenge for this project is the peat soil, which cannot be formed into a canal.

Solution

The Concrete Canvas is installed transversely and stapled to the surface of the wooden formwork. The joints between the segments are made using screws spaced ten centimeters apart. To ensure the channel is watertight and maintain water flow along the channel, the Concrete Canvas joints are sealed with sealant.

The installation of Concrete Canvas in this project also combines with water pipes that will eventually flow to each rice field. The gaps created between the water pipes installed in the Concrete Canvas will later be sealed with sealant.

The installation of Concrete Canvas on this project can be said to be a success, even now, after five years have passed, the condition of the channel in Segare is still standing strong and can operate optimally without any channel maintenance at all.
