Water, drainage, and irrigation channels are vital components of infrastructure that impact many aspects of our lives. In 2019, in Segare village, Asmat Regency, Manokwari, West Papua, we were faced with a critical task: building an irrigation channel for a swampy area that required special attention. The challenges we faced were difficult access and the soft soil characteristics. To overcome this, we decided to use an innovative technology called Concrete Canvas.

Initial Conditions in Segare, West Papua

The difficult soil characteristics that made it difficult to form a proper channel were a major obstacle in this project. Therefore, we decided to use Class I wooden formwork to form the frame of the Concrete Canvas. This formwork provided the necessary strength and durability to ensure the long-lasting durability of the channel.

Efficient Installation Process

After land preparation is complete, we proceed with the installation of Concrete Canvas according to the pre-fabricated formwork. Concrete Canvas’s advantage is its ease of installation. Local workers, who do not require special certification, can easily carry out the installation. This not only saves costs but also provides social benefits by involving a local workforce.

Within 24 hours, the channel is ready for use. For several years after installation, we monitored the condition of the channel without any additional maintenance. The results are quite impressive.
